6/23/12

I wore this to the Cult of Cali launch party...I saw this dress on Asos and fell in love. Seeing as it's a shirtdress, I knew it wouldn't button all the way down, but F it; I knew I would make it work. Shirtdresses and I have a very tumultuous relationship. They never button around my thighs and when they do, the chest/waist is way too big.
Shoes are Jessica Simpson, earrings are from a vendor at jazz festival and rings are varied.

My .02 cents

During FFFWeek, I had the pleasure of attending the Indie Fashion Show. I met my favorite plus designer, Jasmine Elder of Jibri; she was so sweet and personable. She looked great (I'm hoping she puts that jumpsuit  into production) and was an overall pleasure to finally meet. Its rare that you meet people who are as friendly as they are talented.
Now that I shared the good stuff, let's move on to the REAL: I can now see why some bloggers are bloggers. Get them out from behind the laptop and their personalities are about as exciting as a can of paint. The plus size blogging community is small and the plus size blogging community of color is even smaller. Call me naive, but I guess I expected a very friendly environment...I was sadly mistaken. It's unfortunate because we are such an under served community; hell we're all fat and fashionable (in our own minds). I was disheartened to see the negative attitudes and snobbish demeanor of some ladies and even more saddened by the fact that I wasn't the only person who felt the same negativity as I. Can't we all just get along?? I know we can't, but it's a nice thought.
Now y'all know I wouldn't leave you without posting some pics of the event...enjoy!

How cute was she??? Loved her look.

 Her fascinator was EVERYTHING.

 Jibri and I.

Loved that jumpsuit!

Nothing nice in the City

Oh, where to begin??? As I had previously mentioned, I was super excited to attend FFFWeek in New York. I had mentally packed, prepared myself for all types of debauchery and randomness in the City and then.....I GET SICK. I'm talking throat on fire, nose running, coughing spells, vomiting sick. It started the Saturday night before I left that Tuesday morning and I was determined to fight it. I pulled out all the stops: sweating out the fever, tea and honey, DayQuil...you name it, I was on it. Needless to say, I woke up in the middle of the night in New York with a damn ear infection. Yes, you read correctly: AN EAR INFECTION. I drugged myself up and even visited a walk in clinic at Duane Reade, but I'll be honest; I felt like crap pretty much the entire trip.To make matters worse, I even popped a blood vessel in my eye *DEEP SIGH* I'm currently on the mend; I just hate that my trip wasn't as great as I know it could've been. I wasn't able to attend all of the events that I wanted; I was simply exhausted a few of the nights, so you won't see a ton of outfit pics. It is what it is.

I'm going to separate my posts into 2 parts; this post will be OOTD'S and the following post will feature the events I attended.

This top is actually a dress with a tulip hem, but as you can see, these thighs cannot be contained. I loved the print too much to leave it in the store, so I improvised :-)
Dress: Zoe's Vintique (L.A), Skirt: H&M, Shoes: B Brian Atwood

Scarf worn as top: Slauson swapmeet, Pants: Jibri, Shoes: Cathy Jean (btw, I met Jasmine Elder, the designer of Jibri. More on that later :-D

All White Cruise outfit (my version). Top: Asos, Skirt: Anthropologie.

And there you have it...pretty much all the outfit pics I was able to take. Next post will be pics from some of the events and a personal note on bloggers...stay tuned.

Imagine that

Picture this:  A size 16 and up, early 30's single/married/in a relationship, woman. She is gainfully employed, fashion forward and happy. She works hard and plays even harder...her social calendar is full and the stamps on her passport are plentiful. She shops EVERYWHERE, bypassing the fashion "rules" and makes certain items work for her body. She is confident and proud of who she is. She is able to let the ignorant comments she sees about fat people on various social networking slide off her back; after all, why should a person's opinion change HER mindset of HER body? If she's single, she dates and most likely runs across the same issues as her size 0-10 friends. If she's in a relationship, it's a healthy one; her partner appreciates who she is and makes it clear how attracted they are to her. She often steps outside the box when it comes to what she wears and is confident enough to know she looks great. There's no crying about how fat she is or doubting what an awesome person she is just because her clothing size is in double digits. Now, imagine all this in a reality television show...wouldn't that be awesome??? Watching Big Brooklyn Style made me yearn for a show I just described. I know, I know, networks don't believe a fat girl like this exists and until they do, we are somewhat stuck with shows that portray us as downtrodden and sad *deep sigh* Anyway, a girl can dream, right?
It wouldn't be fair to leave y'all without any outfit pics, so the following is what I wore on a night out. I wasn't going to post these pics, mainly because my hair looks a H.A.M, but Mo convinced me to post. The dress is H&M, shoes are Aldo, lipstick is MAC-Ruby Woo.

P.S. I will be at FFFWeek 2 weeks from now! Super excited and can't wait to meet bloggers I've been following...if you're a reader, please say hello; I would love to meet you :-)
